State lawmakers will consider a bill this year that would allow farmers
to legally grow hemp in Virginia. Critics argue the cash crop is too
similar to marijuana.
The Virginia Industrial Hemp Coalition, an
industrial hemp lobbying group, rallied supporters Saturday night in
Belmont, hosting a film screening of "Hempsters" and a discussion about House Bill 1277.
The
bill will go before the General Assembly in the upcoming session. If
passed, HB 1277 would allow Virginia farmers to grow hemp.
